Whether you prefer to refer to them as turbans, head scarfs, or “that headband that hippie girls are wearing this season”, one thing is for sure: they are stylish. Although I never thought I was able to pull them off myself, I decided I might as well try. When Alexandra sent me one of her head scarves from her Etsy shop (and gave one away to a lucky reader) I knew it was time to start wearing it. I don’t look nearly as amazing as the model in her photos did, but hey- I gave it a shot! If you’re looking for cute, affordable and handmade headbands, visit Alexandra’s shop here.
1. Wear it thick around your head, covering your ears. This is a great way to hide greasy roots or hair that hasn’t been washed in a day or two. I find that sometimes when I wear my hair up or wear a headband, my ears tend to stick out more than normal. Or maybe that’s just me being weird. Either way, this way covers that “problem”.
2. Wear them with your hair up. Sometimes a simple bun or ponytail can be too boring, am I right? A fun way to spruce up the classic look is with a head scarf. Leave bangs or short layers out if you’d like to pin them up and tease them for a retro-inspired look.
3. Wear it criss-crossed and thinner. If you don’t want the head scarf to overwhelm your entire face/hair (especially if you have a small face, like me), you can twist the headband to make it thinner and then place it over the top of your forehead.
