Off to the Races

One of the fun things to do during the summer here in good old Upstate New York is to visit the Saratoga Race Track. While some people make it an every-weekend trip, I try to go at least once a summer. Not only is it a popular tourist destination, it also has so many food options to choose from, the excitement of betting on horses and possibly winning money (no, I haven’t won any yet), celebrity sightings (Bobby Flay is known to make a trip here every year), and of course — the fashion. While some people walk around in their Saratoga tees and shorts, you’ll also see a ton of wealthy there — which means awesome fashion. I’m talking designer dresses, sky-high heels and the best part — the crazy hats.

I haven’t gotten around to going to the track yet this year (it’s only open for about 40 days from late July to the end of August), but I’m planning on visiting this upcoming weekend with my boyfriend for part of our one-year anniversary (!) celebration. I’m still choosing out my outfit — it depends on the weather and how ambitious I’m feeling — but here are some of my picks for what to wear at the racetrack.

What to Wear to the Saratoga Racetrack

If you’re visiting Saratoga to visit the racetrack, be aware that there are some dress code guidelines! You can view the full and updated guidelines here on their website, but as a general rule of thumb, you want to dress up a bit. In general, if you are going to be in the box seat area or visit one of the on-premise restaurants, you’ll want to wear a dress, skirt, or nice slacks (no shorts, jeans, or rompers are permitted).

While there are plenty of shaded areas, many of the seats are right in the sun, so be sure to bring your sunglasses and a hat to protect your hair, skin, and face. Hats are also a tradition at the racetrack, so it’s a fun time to bust out your best sun hat or fancy hat!

You’ll be walking around a lot, so if you’re a heels or wedges girl just make sure they are comfortable.
