Fall Trend: Cuffed Jeans

Does it make anyone else laugh that your go-to look as a teenager because you were short is now a “trend”? Growing up, pants rarely fit me due to my petite stature (petite sizing wasn’t as big of a thing then as it is now, and especially not for teenagers or at an affordable price point). Therefore, I was forced to often “cuff” my pants. Now the cuffs weren’t always as pronounced as the ones below that are in style now, but I’m not going to use that fact to negate that I was an original trendsetter (haha!)

The cuffed jean trend is an easy way to alter the silhouette of your pants and give them a more tailored, intentional vibe. The cuffs add structure and allow you to show off your footwear. It’s a small-but-impactful tweak to your denim that signals attention to detail, while still feeling laid-back.

Below are my picks for cuffed jeans at every price point and in every wash.

How to Wear the Trend

Women’s cuffed jeans are super versatile — you can wear any leg style and denim wash. This year, wide-leg and ankle jeans are especially popular. They’re a great option for the transition between the seasons, too!

Here are a few cuffed jean outfits to try, ranging from casual to dressy occasions.

Keep it Classic With a Button-Down

You can’t go wrong with the classic style of a button-down shirt and a pair of jeans (and cuffed jeans are no exception). For a casual look, opt for sneakers (like the outfit in this photo) and top off with your favorite everyday dainty jewelry pieces.

Pair with Oversized Outerwear

Oversized outerwear is a huge trend for fall 2024, and cuffed jeans offer the perfect base to balance the volume of your coat or jacket. Try pairing them with a boxy bomber jacket, trench coat, or oversized wool blazer. This mix of proportions keeps the outfit interesting and on-trend, especially when paired with pointed-toe boots or loafers

Add a Dressy Top and Heels

A pair of heels with cuffed denim prevents it from overwhelming you (especially if you’re petite like me), drawing the eyes upward. For a dressier look, pair the jeans with a blouse and some statement earrings.

Stay in the Same Color Family

I love a good monochromatic look, and this season you’ll see a lot of that with denim (think an elevated take on the “Canadian tuxedo”). This look instantly looks fancy, even if you’re just wearing a tee, plain top, or simple shoes.
