Fall Trend: The Barn Jacket
The barn jacket (sometimes also called a “chore coat”) is a countryside-inspired jacket that has quickly become a go-to for women (and men) seeking something that’s both rugged and refined. Originally designed for rural workwear, the barn jacket has been reimagined for modern wardrobes, offering a versatile and chic option for fall and early winter weather. A few key features that define a barn jacket are a relaxed, boxy fit, sturdy fabrics (cotton, canvas, or twill), multiple pockets, and details like corduroy or quilting.
I actually had a barn jacket a few years back (and thankfully I kept it since it’s not back in style), but I felt that I couldn’t really pull it off that well. Maybe now I’ll blend in a bit more with my outerwear choice?

How to Wear The Barn Jacket Trend
Barn jackets aren’t your average piece of outwear — they can be styled and worn a few different ways as a layering piece. They’re especially versatile for fall weather when layers are key due to the changing temperatures (right now it’s fall one day and summer the next here in NJ!) Here are a few ways to style a barn jacket and wear the trend.

Add Lots of Accessories
Sometimes I feel like my coat takes over my entire outfit and I look “blah”. I’ve found that adding a few accessories makes me feel more put-together. Add some jewelry, sunglasses, or even a hat to your outfit and keep the barn jacket open to pull off this look.
With a Turtleneck
Elevate your barn jacket by styling it with a fitted turtleneck. This look gives a nod to the jacket’s workwear roots while maintaining a modern, minimalist vibe.
With Loafers and a White Tee
Why reinvent something simple that works? Styling a barn jacket with a tee and loafers is the perfect way to create a laid-back yet polished look for fall. This combination is ideal for casual days when you want to feel comfortable but still look put-together.
With High-Waisted Jeans
High-waisted jeans create a flattering silhouette alongside the boxier cut of the barn jacket. This outfit combo is perfect for weekend errands or casual outings, especially when paired with sneakers or hiking boots for a comfortable finish.
